WHY GREEN CHILE ?

The Green Chile Golf Trail

There is a controversy over which bordering state grows the best green chiles.  Even so much that the states have competing license plates. The battle is over chiles grown in Pueblo, Colorado versus those of Hatch, New Mexico. So as you drive along the trail, stop at these known restaurants and sample some.

NEW MEXICO'S GREEN CHILE CHEESEBURGER

New Mexico's Green Chile Cheeseburger

The New Mexico favorite is the "Green Chile Cheeseburger" which has two beef patties, green chile strips and a side of pinto beans. New Mexico chile comes from Las Cruces in Southern New Mexico, where it is taught in agricultural science classes at New Mexico State University.

PUEBLO CHILE+THE SLOPPER

Pueblo Chile+The Slopper

Colorado green chile is grown around Pueblo. It is often eaten as a stew or spread over an open-faced hamburger known as "The Slopper." Pueblo is so driven it hosts a three-day Chile and Frijole Festival September 18-20 attracting thousands.
