There are two main routes from Colorado with golf along the way.
The logical route is I-25 south 392 miles in six hours to Santa Fe. The municipal course is on the west side of town so it may be too late to play.
Our plan is "Drive, play , putt, stay, enjoy green chile."

Exit I-25 at Walsenburg onto US 160 to LaVeta to play Grandote Peaks. The first Tom Weiskopf design in Colorado, the course has been renovated, has a new restaurant and offers reasonable rates. Lodging is limited but the course has a group lodge and RV park. 719-999-7529. www.playgrandote.com.

Play Grandote Peaks in the afternoon. Stay overnight at the Two Fox Cabins. Most cabins have kitchens. The next morning drive the 113 miles toward Taos. After driving over gentle La Veta Pass, take the Colorado 159 cutoff south into New Mexico and then Taos. 719-742-0260 www.twofoxcabins.com
